Social Care Workforce Redesign in BNSSG: An Update from Coproduce Care (CIC)

We are pleased to announce our involvement in a new project researching how to improve social care. The Social Care Workforce Redesign project in BNSSG, is run by local care association Care and Support West  and commissioned by Health Education England We will be contributing to local initiatives in Social Care Workforce Redesign, and we are excited to share the project with you.

This project is running from June 2023 to Summer 2024. We will be working on three areas for the next 10 months all in the BNSSG region which are as follows:

1: Trusted Assessors - Home from Hospital - Extending New Ways of Working

In this project we investigated the Trusted Assessor approach in health and social care systems. We examined how the role had been implemented in a number of NHS trusts across England.

The objective was to demonstrate the value of Trusted Assessors in streamlining the care needs assessment, while also addressing data protection and consent concerns.

In doing this research we found that Trusted Assessors have a valuable role to play as an interface between the NHS and local care providers and that their trusted assessments are important in ensuring that care providers are able to have the most accurate and up-to-date information to make a decision about whether they are able to offer the care needed.

In light of our research we have also made some recommendations which may help to take the role forward, and grow the role as an integral part of the integrated discharge hub, and as such continue to help reduce delays to discharge.

Our report "An Investigation of the Trusted Assessor approach in health and social care" is now available to download (this will open in a new window):

2: BNSSG Opportunities for Levy Sharing and Social Care Apprenticeships

This project aims to identify opportunities for levy sharing in social care and increase the use of apprenticeships. The project will engage social care providers, training organizations, authorities, and other stakeholders to develop strategies, guidelines, and an implementation plan for utilizing the levy effectively and increasing the use of apprenticeships.

3: Caring Together: Uniting Social Care and Health for Optimal Outcomes

In this project, we are evidencing the enhanced collaboration between social care providers, health services, and local authorities. By mapping existing interfaces and collaborations, we seek to identify opportunities for cross-system benefits and improved outcomes. Our research will provide valuable insights to guide decision-making processes.
